Twink, the Toy Piano Band! Twink, the Toy Piano Band!

Review of Supercute! from Proper Magazine

Remember when we told you about that Iron Maiden electro-cover versions album? Or the one with all the letters sent into porno mags read aloud on it? Or those mad Italians singing about mushrooms? Then maybe you'll remember Twink, the album made using minature toy instruments that came with a picture book all about a freaked out rabbit. Well here comes part two Supercute! promising a "toy suprise in every song!" It's bigger, badder, better, cuter, and also features an endearing cover version of Metallicas "Enter Sandman" which rocks albeit in a very cute, nursery-based way.

This time Mike Langlie has enlisted the help of seasoned musos Ralph Carney, Clayton Scoble and Steven Cerio who play the more conventional instruments amidst the twinkly kindergarten funk. It's a weird concept that is just as likely to send you crackers as it is to make all you friends burst into fits of laughter.

Albums like this demand both your respect and attention for actually going through with such a silly idea and managing to come up with a piece of music that works. I'm tempted to steal an ice cream van just so I can drive round playing "We All Scream (for Ice Cream)" very, very loudly from it. I reckon I'd make a killing.
